About Kestrel Landscapes
A Los Osos–based design-build landscaper building beautiful, functional, drought-tolerant and low-maintenance landscapes across the Central Coast.

Rooted in Los Osos
Kestrel Landscapes is built around a simple idea: a landscape should be beautiful and genuinely low-maintenance, and getting there means respecting the ground it grows in. We work from Los Osos out across San Luis Obispo County and the wider Central Coast, and we live with the same sandy soils, coastal fog, wind, deer and water rules our clients do.
That local grounding shapes every project. We don't hand you a generic Central Coast plan — we assess your parcel, talk through your goals and budget, and design something that fits your conditions and how you actually want to use the space.
We're a design-build-maintain operation, which means one accountable crew from the first assessment through installation and, if you want it, ongoing care. No finger-pointing between a designer and an installer — just one team that owns the result.
What we do
What we design and build
One local crew handles the whole yard. From your main landscape design and installation to the pieces that make it work — drought-tolerant planting, irrigation and drip systems, fences and gates, patios and hardscape, drainage, erosion control and outdoor living spaces — it's all under one roof. We also do the essential, un-glamorous work the Central Coast demands: fire defensible space and weed abatement to keep your property safe and compliant.
Because we design, build and maintain, the sequence is right: drainage and soil first, then irrigation, then the plants and finishes everyone sees. It's why our landscapes still look good — and still drain — years after they go in.
Our promise
Honest from estimate to handoff
Every project starts the same way: a free on-site assessment, then a written scope that separates design, site preparation, irrigation, plants, hardscape, allowances, warranty and payment milestones. You see the plan and an honest planning range before you commit to anything — not a vague "free estimate" that turns into a moving target.
We put the parts people forget in writing too: establishment care after planting, seasonal irrigation adjustments, and exactly what our workmanship and plant warranties cover. When a job needs a permit, Los Osos Habitat Conservation Plan review, or a specialist like a geotechnical engineer, we flag it up front rather than discovering it mid-build.
And when it comes to hiring any contractor, we'll tell you to do your homework — verify the license, classification and status on the CSLB website before you sign. Trust is earned with a clear plan, an honest range and one crew that owns the result.
How we work
What you can count on
Drainage & soil first
We fix what's under the yard before the finishes go on top. A pretty surface over a bad base just hides the failure.
Everything in writing
A clear written scope — design, prep, irrigation, planting, hardscape, allowances and warranty — so you know exactly what you're buying.
Water-wise by default
Drought-tolerant, low-maintenance design isn't an upsell here; it's how we build for the Central Coast's water reality.
Right-sized honesty
We'll tell you when to repair instead of replace, when to phase a project, and when a job needs an engineer or another trade.
Our reach
Serving 62 Central Coast communities
From our Los Osos hub we cover the coast, the Five Cities, the North County wine country and the Santa Maria & Santa Ynez valleys, with scheduled project work reaching farther still.
